Open at Noon by Mark Powell invites us into a world known appearance but, at the same time strangely different. Through his images, taken in Latin America, a narrative shows us at different levels: the known but tortuous, with composition but without balance; sometimes with humor, but always disturbing.

Thus, players of a football team in Iztapalapa found lying on the floor; may rest, maybe meditate. It's a beautiful scene, like a Busby Berkeley musical; however, we are in Mexico, can we rule out the possibility of a mass slaughter or suicide? Also, a waiter at Acapulco serves us with a pot of coffee, would such a threat that mean?

Meanwhile, a woman surrounded by dogs try to rest under a blanket leopard, while a man is trapped in a pile of leaves. Later, another rushes back into traffic, dragging a tire and tied to a wooden beam; What it means: exercise, penance or madness? And when a plastic dolphin conquest bed where we sleep?

It is unclear whether the photograph of Mark Powell is a result of objective possibilities, street photography documented, provocative collaboration, or both. But one thing is clear, this project Powell offers an answer to the question that artists have always done: perhaps the act of observing changes the origin and meaning of what we see? The answer is a question: did the scenes have happened this way, if Mark Powell had not been there?

Mark Powell is originally from Detroit, United States, and since 2004 lives in Mexico City.
