A Perpetual Season establishes a photographic trail through a city of dreams, revealing a network of spaces that stand as silent witnesses of a forgotten order.

Recurrent forms of cement and perplexed human beings mark the way with a slightly elegiac tone that evokes an inverted Arcadia, illuminated by the hopes and visions of a bygone era. This is the place for a series of disturbing encounters - symptoms that act as cryptic symptoms of an ominous presence - an upside-down staircase, an unreachable door, people frozen in precarious gestures, interrupted conversations.

This "perpetual season" alludes to an autonomous pictorial space, and the naturalistic approach embedded in such a photographic practice is a pretext for the construction of a world that ultimately denies its own familiarity. The formal and thematic echoes that are executed throughout the sequence can be seen as transversal lines drawn within an apparent chaos, connecting discarded buildings with stunned passers-by, decaying green spaces with enigmatic corridors. Apparently each one has its own double or appears reincarnated, and therefore they condense into this peculiar realm of light and space, as a cross-section of a recurring global cycle.

Grégoire Pujade-Lauraine is a photographic artist living in London, whose work has been exhibited in various places in Europe. A Perpetual Season is his second book. The significant Savages family, his first book, was recently selected for Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's third volume The Photobook: A History.
