François Deladerrière's photographs depict discarded objects, abandoned on the edge of an unknown territory. In reality, this territory is well known and mapped: these images were taken south of Arles, in the Camargue. This is Europe's largest delta, where the Rhône carries enormous quantities of mud; it looks as if the river has abandoned these objects on its banks, awaiting their fate. Or it could be human hands that have discarded these unwanted objects, leaving time to do its work of destruction. This area speaks to us of a certain afterlife, where different materials are reduced to more basic forms of matter, gradually decomposed by the forces of nature. Who knows, some of them may be recycled to create new objects.  _Paul Wombell
