Most of the time, photography has served as a tool to denounce the struggle for freedom and the defense of human rights in a region plagued by various plagues. The processes of creation emerge in full political, economic and social effervescence. The complex web of cultures that makes up the continent, and the open wounds of a history that is repeated cyclically, makes many authors use photography to investigate their own identity and represent what happens in their environment.

At a time when the image has taken on a predominant role in our culture, and when photography is more important than ever, paradoxically this photographic image has become trivialised and it is increasingly difficult to access works that generate reflection. The massification of images produces stereotypes and photographers are faced with the need to generate new models of representation capable of highlighting their images among millions. The traditional photographic genres are being reconstructed, the models of representation are being exhausted and the schemes on which the documentary was based have been broken.

Labyrinth of glances: a journey through documentary photography in Latin America, aims to give a global dimension of the current state of documentary photography in the region. Through presenting multidirectional views of authors working in different countries, exploring new creative languages and deepening the reality of the environment around them.
