La nieta del cubano (The Cuban's Granddaughter) is a non-narrative visual project, a memory woven between past and present through photography.

To this end, I bring together images from the family archive with my own photographs, taken in the surroundings of the village of Mourelos, in the municipality of Touro (A Coruña), the place of origin of my maternal family.

There is a generational gap in this collection, but also a continuity: most of the images were taken with the same tool—the 35 mm analogue camera inherited from my aunt Estrella—which acts as a symbolic bridge between different temporalities. Rather than constructing a narrative line, my interest is in proposing an intuitive, open story, where times intersect and generate a mutable visual space, in which people, objects and places coexist as an imaginary projection of time.

At the same time, the project is an investigation into family identity through the Galician landscape. The landscape, laden with symbolic meanings and values, becomes an interlocutor: I dialogue with it through photography. Our environment shapes, often unconsciously, our perception of reality and our emotions. In this sense, I turn to the rural landscape as a means of exploration: a territory with its own character that feeds a metaphysical need for self-knowledge and a return to our origins.
