Takasugi, born in 1973 in Shizuoka, Japan, moved to Berlin in 2004, where he has been developing a unique artistic practice ever since. His work navigates between traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design and fine arts, creating unexpected bridges between these disciplines.

With a degree in craft design and sculpture, the artist has been exploring the complex relationship between industrial production and individual creation since his early days. This reflection took on new life in 2014 when he turned to photography and explored the possibilities of analogue techniques.

Takasugi's work underwent a decisive evolution with his creations on silver foil, where traditional photography dialogues with ancestral Japanese craftsmanship. Mastering screen printing and the chemical reactions of sulphur on silver, he composes botanical and landscape images of striking luminosity.

His works deliberately blur the boundaries between image and sculptural object, between mechanical reproduction and unique piece. The characteristic sepia tones and reference strips integrated into each creation are not mere decorative elements – they bear witness to the craft process and emphasise the uniqueness of each piece.

Through this approach, Takasugi revisits the concept of “aura” developed by Walter Benjamin: the irreplaceable presence that every authentic work possesses in its unique relationship to time and space.

His work leads us to rethink the traditional oppositions between artisanal and reproducible, intimate and monumental. It reveals the subtle links between perception, memory and materiality in our relationship with images.

Limited edition of 300 copies and 10 numbered and signed deluxe copies presented in a metal box and accompanied by a unique work of art.
