Wandering through an imaginary city, Metropolia invites the reader to a dreamlike wandering punctuated by enigmatic encounters. The urban space is apprehended in fragments, guessing at the silhouettes we meet there. Mists, exploded grains, sometimes saturated lights, shades of grey, monochrome colours playing with cold blues or warm oranges, Bogren's visual experience is sensitive. For the first time, he uses colour photographs to punctuate the B&W: "The use of colour was a way of rebelling against myself, as the photographer explains in the book's interview, to see if I could do something totally new. With black and white, I was starting to know a bit too much about what I was doing, whereas colour was like a foreign language that I slowly learned. But to tell the truth, my colour images are very monochromatic.

Capturing intimacy, expressing the fragile, showing the impermanence of things: Martin Bogren's visual world reveals the illusion of the world. His images capture on their surface a reality that is dissolving but that the photographer's art has managed to capture in extremis, by stealth.
