Florian Bachmeier's colour photographs, taken in Ukraine over the last eight years, succeed in making visible the past and present historical processes in Ukraine, and in describing their psychological and social effects on the people as well as the landscapes.

He travels intensively throughout the country, taking photographs in the cities, in the villages and at the front. In the seventh year, an internal political conflict has turned into a ruthless proxy war that has cost thousands of lives and spread across the country in all its effects.

IN LIMBO, describes an apparent state of numbness and at the same time permanent insecurity. The portraits tell of biographies in which the conflict has inscribed itself visibly and invisibly. Next to the heroic monuments and the ruins of the last war, the front stretches across the landscape. In the end, people are left with the choice of either settling into this state or leaving the country, their homeland.
