Toni Catany (Llucmajor, Mallorca, 1942 - Barcelona, 2013) is unquestionably one of the leading figures of contemporary photography thanks to his timeless body of work imbued with a pictorial quality, in which the classic themes predominate, among them the still life, portrait, nude and landscape, all photographed with his personal sensibility and aesthetic.

This book-cum-catalogue, being published by RM in collaboration with the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation to accompany the exhibition mounted in 2016 at La Pedrera (Barcelona), surveys Catany’s work from a broad perspec-tive, criss-crossing timelines and places (from his Mediterranean to the Caribbean and India), with a special emphasis on the photographs he took in his final years up to 2013. A fascinating journey back and forth through Catany’s private collection of maps, enabling us to chart the places and track the objects, as well as the interests and obsessions, that we find in his images and which make up that singular imaginary that he retained throughout his career.
