A figure in young Japanese photography, Yoshinori Mizutani revisits the urban space of his city, Tokyo. Deeply imbued with Japanese pictorial tradition, the photographer explores Tokyo-style everyday life and captures scenes on the edge of fantasy. His framings and acidulous colours give his images a certain strangeness. Shapes, textures, colour nuances, depth of field develop a visual vocabulary that is both poetic and pop. Visions of dreams or nightmares, Yoshinori Mizutani's birds saturate the world of the city with their presence and restore its mystery.

This book is part of the Des oiseaux collection, which celebrates, through the eyes of various artists, their immense presence in a world where they are now vulnerable. Ornithologist Guilhem Lesaffre proposes an unpublished essay to accompany each set of photographs. For those of Yoshinori Mizutani, it highlights the gregarious behaviour of birds. Previous titles in the collection include: Pentti Sammallahti, Bernard Plossu and Terri Weifenbach.
